Shankly I believe we are on the cusp of something special!

Yes, you read it correctly. I am looking at this team in the midst of it's most difficult time in years and I see fantastic times ahead in the very near future. I don't see us making the knockout stages of the Champions League as I don't see Lyon getting a result against Fiorentino but I do see us doing something special in the League and possibly coming closer to winning it than last year.
Our present injury crisis is the worst for some time. No team on earth could fail to be affected by it. Add to this an indifferent defensive performance and a fair shaking of bad luck and we find ourselves where we are. But lok at what's to come. Torres will be back to full fitness in the near future, Gerrard and Johnson likewise while Aquilani is now ready for his Premiership debut. Agger is back to full fitness and looking good. Skrtel will return to his former self after a break while Insua and Aurellio will keep each other on their toes at left back. Meanwhile Degen is actually looking like a real option at right back. Reina is the is best in the country, full stop.
Just look at the potential of Torres, Gerrard, Benayoun and Aquilani aided by Johnson and you have gotta be excited by the possibilities. My advice to all you Reds in despair, is hang on in there, this train will soon be pulling away from the platform, and once it picks up speed, there will be no stopping it! I firmly believe this. The coming months are going to quiet special!

I admire your positivity but by the time all the named players are back fully fit it will most likely be too late for anything other than an FA cup run and 4th spot.

In fact if anyone offered me 4th spot and the FA cup I'd take that right now.

great to see some positivity mate - another green for you
i also believe that we can make it up in the league. i challenge someone to tell me when the last time was we didnt go through a bad patch in the league. look at christmas last year - we dropped many points and turned it round and almost won the league.
yes the champ league is out of our hands for now but i do believe lyon will go to beat fiora - they will want to finish top in the group for the seeding.. and also for the confidence it will bring.
theres still a long way to go this year, and i for one think there is still everything to play for
with injuries to clear up we can go on and win almost every remaining game in the year....
let the redmen rise

Confucius, ancient Chinese sage said "out of chaos comes opportunity" - se we have the chaos, hopefully not too long before the opportunity and hoping someone takes it - with more investment and a cure for all injuries!!

The original OP's thread title is spot on.

I'd like to mention something myself.

Remember in December 2004, Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League - heck, they didn't even qualify for the UEFA Cup because they finished 4th.

At that time, everyone was saying that "that's the end of Manchester United", "they're in decline" and other similar things.

Then, a couple of years later they come back and win the Mickey Mouse Cup, and then further on from that, they've won the league a few times, and the European Cup once, and another final in the same competition.

I am just wondering if that is what is also happening to us.

The thread of this title just reminded me of United's 'supposed' decline.

Maybe it's our turn to start turning the corner and become once again, the dominant force in English football.

With the new Standard Chartered contract, plus a reasonable possibility that sometime in the future we will be taken over by rich Middle East owners (plus, there was mention of share raising to bring Ģ100M to the LFC table) - well, things really aren't that bad.

I will support Liverpool forever. If they have a **** season this time, they have a **** season.

I support the most loved club in the country!

I agree with the OP, but have been too scared to pop my head over the parapet for the last few weeks.

This time last year, weren't Arsenal having a rough time? Loads of injuries and some bad results.

I feel that we are in a similar position at the moment.

Keep the faith, we will come good!

All depends on the Torres/Gerard injury operation situation, i really hope neither are in the squad against Birmingham as we have massive games coming up ManCity, the derby and Arsenal with the champions league games in between them aswell and we desperatly need them fully fit.
If we can get some good reasults in our next 7 games our season could be right back on track. I agree with you im excited to see us play when everyones fully fit. I think Aqualani is gonna make such a difference playing with mascarano in the middle. 9 points is not that big of gap considering the way this seasons going i know Chelsea are flying but i hope they struggle come the african nations when Drogba,Kalou,Essien,Mikel are missing. Surely the other teams will get bad luck with injurys aswell. Lyon will draw with Fiorentina and we will beat them by 2 goals at Anfield

tottenham away, aston villa home, chelsea away, sunderland away, fulham away. Ok losses against tottenham, chelsea away was always likely to happen as both are top teams. Aston villa is also a top team. and both sunderland and fulham will probably be midtable teams and are decent teams.

at least we havenīt lost against Burnley and the likes yet.
and if we win more of the draws that we had last season and get players back we can get on a good run, and I admit 5 lost games already sounds Very bad, but if we get less draws this season we could end up with similar total points this season. I canīt see chelsea, man u and arsenal win comfortable against aston villa, tottenham, man city, everton etc away! and sunderland and fulham are decent teams.

as long as we keep winning against the lesser teams and win our home gomes against the top teams, we may still be in with a shout!
at least we havent draw or lost against teams in the bottom 6-7

Crest Believe!

I agree about positive thinking, but more so than that - It's time for us all to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

We have been dealt the cards we have. Let's deal with them. There are still lots for us to be positive about. It's time for us all - fans, players, staff and owners - to start to BELIEVE!

If we do that, then we can achieve.

All we need is our best players to play constantly like many have for the current clubs in the top five and we will be fine, we just can't afford another period like we are having.

If the injury period is over for us and our best players are coming back plus, a couple of weeks rest for our players during the international break and we could well see us limb rather quickly out of the lull we are in.

Someone mentioned above about ManU i guess that team peaked and that was its down period in many ways thats whare i see ours this is recopuration period to get alot bugs out a system, plus it has also allowed many news faces to come in and show what they have to offer.

I still have a funny fealing we could still qualify for the champs league, may well be wrong but i think we will be their, allthough im not bothered if we are in the eufa cup i would quite like us to win it to be ohnest.

It is positive and we have to remain positive.

We could have a say in who wins the title too. Arsenal and Chelsea have to come to Anfield so let us hope we do not do the scum any favours!

I said in an earlier thread that our full team will frighten anybody. It is just a question of time and I fear we will have to wait until next season for the trophies.

However, once we get there then look out YNWA!

I do see us doing something special in the League and possibly coming closer to winning it than last year.

Well at least you have hope, fair play to you

IF I was a betting man and I'm not; I would consider Chelsea a good bet to have their best season in their history and win everything including the Champions league.

Someone had a post recently about the best 11 ever and I got to thinking if I was to choose a world 11 now; then I would have 4 Chelsea players in my eleven - Czech, Carvalho, Essien and Drogba.

The rest of my team would be - Gerrard, Iniesta, Nesta, Evra, Torres, Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos. So 7 of my 11 would be from the Premier League.
