I believe losing Gerrard and torres this season through injury has really hurt our chances of making a challenge - then we had Mascherano injured too - I am sick of it! Every season its the same thing our best players get injured in mickey mouse friendly matches - If they scrapped International Football tomorrow I'd be happy! All I care for is my club LIVERPOOL!

True but i do feel to have near enough 14 players missing is hard for any team. I know the likes of johnson, agger, aurelio might make it but rafa has to have his team planned from today to work on tactics and hopefully set-pieces and how to make us a threat from them.

The none-funny thing is thats it as we have seen this season without one being on the pitch we look so weak almost a mid-table team

certainly looks that way
if either torres or gerrard play for their country on the weekend of the 14th I shall scream very loudly, but if they don't it's most likely because both are recovering from ops )I'm a bit annoyed with stevies, because he seems to have aggravated his by hanging around the england camp when he should have come straight home for treatment - he even attended the friendly |

It's not as if we're the only teams having to release our players for international duty, though.
We're the only team getting as many injuries as we do - that either says something about our players, our training or our luck. |

Does seem to happen that Nando and Stevie get injured on international duty only

I knew before the Arsenal game, that we would lose, but I thought we did play well. So for me, that game was a victory.
With all the injury problems, having to play the Worthington cup as well, was not really an option. Torres and Gerrard out means we won't be able to challenge title or CL, BUT we have to play well and find our (especially defensive) form again. I see us playing for 3rd place. This is not a season to be proud of, but one to build for the future. Jay Spearing, Kelly, Derby should get chances this season, so that they will be available when needed next season. Degen has had his first proper game, Aquilani will have soon. Next season they will be ready for the PL. Ngog will be more mature too. Maybe even Pacheco will play next season. If we can get 2 good signings, avoid injury problems and KEEP RAFFA I see us winning next season. But this season, 3rd is all I hope for. Raffa built a great team, but injuries cost us. I knew in preseason, ( none of our CB had an injury free preseason) that we would not start well. Season is still long and we need to build up form and more important confidence. |

Blaming International injuries (of two players) is very poor excuse.
All other big teams are suffering from international injuries but they did not lose too many games like Liverpool did. I wonder why? |

Given the circumstances that Liverpool Football club finds itself in 2009 (e.g squad very thin relative to other title challengers, lack of investment etc etc) the international interests of players (who have proved to be pivotal to a domestic title and European challenge) and the title and European aspirations of the club itself are inimical to one another. Those very highly paid players under contract of employment to Liverpool Football club, are under a moral obligation to put the interests of the club and the supporters as their foremost priority.
If you find this reasoning difficult - Then please analyse the current situation. Ask yourself where else in life a businesses assets can be just commandeered like they can by the FA's? Yet in football there still exists this very surreal situation. The only way the impasse can be broken is for the players themselves to prioritise their clubs - Yes stand down! I believe (as argued above) there is a moral imperative for them to do so at Liverpool FC - In this current situation. Think! If those players do not prioritise the club - Then why should the fans prioritise the club? (with all that entails!!!!). Think! - How can you (with impunity) blame RAFA or ask the owners to sacrifice their own money, if you do not also ask these (very highly paid) players to make sacrifices themselves? Still not convinced? - Well try it yourself at work - Ask for paid time off to 'work for someone else' - Oh! and risk injury and sick leave - Oh! and in a recession by the way - With better resourced competitors out performing your own employer! - Aye Right! ![]() |

Jiv lad - do you really think we could claim to be some sort of special case, and just withdraw our players from international duty?
![]() They'd all put in transfer requests, for a start.... |

Kopite: What he said and a team of Carraghers. I hate international football, it only gets in the way. But lets be honest we can go on about injuries stopping this and that but for me our performances, apart from kicking the mancs up the ass, have not been good this season at all. I mean every decent team we've played has beaten us even with Torres & Gerrard playing. Said it before but we are sadly missing Alonso - we are like an engine with no oil without him. |

I wrote the below in another thread, and Denmark had already qualified before the Hungary game. Well, at least it looks like has travelled to Lyon....
At this point I am more irritated with the players that seem to really enjoy playing international games with their country instead of doing the right thing for the club. Take Agger for example, playing the full game against Hungary four days after playing 90 minutes against Sweden and before that we hadn't played a competitive game since I don't know when.......big surprise his back problems are back. Other similar examples exist. I would have hoped that the players can respect the club more than that. |

Slagging RAFA and the owners in unbalanced - Without apportioning some responsibility to our stars. In the long run the FA's parasitical relationship on club football needs to be re-examined. Also needing re-examination is the surreal throwback to feudalism that is the FA's 'first call' on players. Until that day we can only look to the loyalty and honour of our enormously wealthy players - Only their honour can break the impasse....But call me 'old fashioned' honour is what I expect from enormously wealthy employees of LFC - In times of crisis at least. 'Noblesse oblige'* and all that! ![]() *Noblesse oblige" is generally used to imply that with wealth, power and prestige come responsibilities Last edited by jivago; 3-11-09 at 21:47. Reason: Spell |
